Industry Forecast: The Future Outlook For Renewable Fuels

Industry leaders believe renewable fuels will be an important part of the next evolution of energy.

What will the future hold? It’s a question as old as time.

As far as we know, no one has yet found a reliable crystal ball. If they have, they are not sharing it. But that does not stop humankind from thinking about what will come next. Often, we turn to individuals we believe can foretell what may come. No, not a soothsayer in a circus tent, but industry experts who can look at market forces, read political winds, and delve into historical patterns to forecast the probable future.

See what more than two dozen industry experts answered when we asked: What do you see as the future for renewable fuels and the delivered fuels industry in the next decade or beyond?

The Next Chapter: The Future Of Renewable Liquid Heating

The delivered heating industry is evolving toward a diversified portfolio of renewable energy sources.

If the past 25 years have been defined by cleaner fuels and Bioheat®, the next decade will be defined by something even larger:

The evolution from petroleum heating oil to renewable liquid energy.

The Power Of Showing Up

By Jim Collura, NEFI President & CEO

As we move through “trade show season,” I am again reminded of how important these gatherings are for our industry. We gain strength as we gather, face-to-face, to address challenges and develop solutions. Together, we steer our collective businesses, organizations, and the entire delivered fuels and home services industries forward to a successful future.

We are just a few weeks away from the Southern New England Energy Conference (SNEEC) in Newport, Rhode Island. We are exactly one year away from the 2027 HEAT Show in Boston. I urge you to mark your calendars and attend both.

Efficiency Starts At Home

Internal operational efficiency can reduce a company’s overhead, requiring fewer staff hours and lowering expenses, just as new HVAC equipment cuts costs and fuel requirements for your customers.

Liquid fuel companies talk a lot about efficiency. Systems that run at higher efficiencies may have a higher upfront cost, but provide greater savings in the long run. They fulfill the home’s comfort needs more quickly and utilize fewer resources to achieve the same end result, which lowers operating costs.

Buy It Or Build It? How Energy Dealers Should Weigh Acquisition Against Organic Growth

The best move is the one that aligns with your balance sheet, your operating discipline, and the risk you can absorb if a deal underperforms. Marty Kirshner of Gray, Gray & Gray LLP discusses the points a retailer needs to consider.

The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative: Emissions Savior Or Scam?

The “cap-and-invest” multistate program was supposed to move utilities toward cleaner energy production. But is it actually increasing prices and reducing investments?

As states throughout the country are reviewing clean energy regulations and variations of cap-and-trade (or cap-and-invest) plans, the RGGI model is one worth looking at. Is it a tax in disguise that will be used by short-sighted legislators to hamper consumer energy choice and raise energy costs? Is it the route to the future, where renewable fuels play their part in a lower-carbon tomorrow? Is the cost of participating raising electricity costs, in complete opposition to RGGI’s stated goals? Does it even have the effect on emissions and technology that it was created for? There is a lot to unpack.

O&E takes a deep dive into the issue in our August issue: https://oilandenergyonline.com/articles/all/the-regional-greenhouse-gas-initiative-emissions-savior-or-scam/

IEA: Middle East Conflict To Reshape Energy Investments

Electricity and diversification are driving growth in energy spending with countries seeking to respond to latest energy crisis with new routes and domestically available resources.

The far-reaching effects of the conflict in the Middle East are prompting countries and companies to rethink energy investment strategies in response to heightened concerns over energy security and the reliability of trade flows, according to a new IEA report.
