Hello, I’m Alona Bowman.
Welcome to my page.
If someone had told me 20 years ago that one day I would become the Chief Operating Officer of one of the largest building envelope contractors in California, I probably would have smiled and said, “We’ll see.”
Because my story didn’t begin in a boardroom.
It began in the Philippines.
I was born and raised there and earned my degree in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas. Like many immigrants, I came to the United States with a dream… not knowing exactly what the future would look like, only knowing I was willing to work hard for it.
In 2007, I joined Best Contracting as a non-union employee supporting our field operations.
I wasn’t the smartest person in the room.
I wasn’t the most experienced.
I simply showed up every day willing to learn.
Over the years, I worked in different roles, learning every aspect of the business. I spent countless hours on jobsites with our field teams because I believed that if I wanted to lead them someday, I first had to understand them.
Together we learned how to read plans, write daily reports, communicate professionally, embrace new technology, solve problems, and become better leaders.
Some of my greatest teachers never sat behind a desk.
They wore hard hats.
The men and women in the field taught me lessons about grit, accountability, pride, craftsmanship, and resilience that no classroom ever could.
Today, after nearly two decades with the company, I have the privilege of serving as Chief Operating Officer.
While that title means a great deal to me, it is not what defines me.
What defines me is my commitment to people.
I believe leadership is about serving others.
I believe knowledge should never be hoarded. It should be shared freely so the next generation can become even better than ours.
I believe discipline creates freedom.
I believe accountability builds trust.
I believe consistency beats talent when talent refuses to work.
Most importantly, I believe every person deserves an opportunity to grow if someone is willing to invest in them.
Construction has given me more than a career.
It has given me lifelong friendships, mentors, challenges that shaped me, opportunities I never imagined, and a chance to help build something much bigger than buildings.
It has allowed me to help build people.
This page is where I’ll share my journey…
• Leadership lessons learned in the construction industry.
• Operations, business, and organizational growth.
• Mentorship and developing future leaders.
• The realities of balancing career, family, and life.
• Golf, because it’s become another classroom for leadership, patience, and relationships.
• And occasionally, the failures and mistakes that taught me more than the successes ever did.
My hope is that someone reading these posts finds encouragement to keep going.
Whether you’re just starting your career, working in the field, leading a team, running a business, or simply trying to become a better version of yourself… I hope something here adds value.
Thank you for being here.
I’m grateful you’re part of this journey.
Let’s keep learning.
Let’s keep growing.
Let’s keep building.
Not just buildings…
Let’s build people.
