Actual Chip Thickness is one of the most important cutting parameters you should be evaluating when sending your tool! Your actual chip thickness will naturally decrease if you are stepping over less than 50% of the cutter diameter. Our machining platform (COREcutCNC.com) auto-calculates this for you.

Your chamfer mill isn't a cylinder; it's a cone! So, which diameter are you programming to?

The Z position decides what's actually cutting. Saddle mid-edge: bigger effective diameter, lower RPM. Drop to the tip: the effective diameter shrinks, so you need more RPM to hold SFM—not less. Many users misinterpret that.

The feed is a different diameter entirely. Chip load comes off the body, then the lead angle thins the chip 2× on a 60° cutter. So, that "too fast" number is actually the one that cuts.

The real chamfer depth, edge position, angle, cutting parameters, and dialed-in for your particular material are all resolved by COREcutCNC.com!
