Why let valuable space go to waste when you can turn it into something your family will enjoy for years to come?
Here we have this project that took us to Charlotte, NC, where these homeowners wanted to transform their unfinished attic into a functional living space for their children. After meeting with them and discussing their vision, we developed a plan to create a seamless extension of their home. We began by framing the new room and building a partition wall to separate the HVAC equipment from the finished living area. During construction, we identified that the existing staircase needed to be reconfigured because the steps were too steep and interfered with the new layout. We made the necessary adjustments to ensure a safer, more functional staircase. From there, we installed insulation, extended the HVAC system to properly condition the new room, completed the electrical work with new lighting and receptacles, and finished the space with drywall, taping, mudding, sanding, and a smooth finish ready for paint. To make the new room feel like it had always been part of the home, we painted it to match the existing hallway and surrounding upstairs living areas. As the project progressed, the homeowners decided to take the renovation a step further. We removed the existing upstairs carpet and installed new black luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring throughout the entire second floor. To complete the transformation, we installed new baseboards and quarter round, finished in semi-gloss white, and installed new stair treads and risers, stained to complement the new flooring for a cohesive look throughout the upstairs. The result is a beautiful, functional playroom that blends seamlessly with the rest of the home and provides a dedicated space where their children can play, learn, and make lasting memories.
