Building projects. Building confidence. Building what comes next.
This fall, Texas A&M Construction Science students Luke Merz and Andrew Schelfhout are experiencing two different sides of commercial construction at Paradigm.
In preconstruction, Luke is preparing budgets, participating in site walks, communicating with subcontractors, and helping put bids together. Across three internships with Paradigm, he’s grown more confident, taken on greater responsibility, and discovered that preconstruction is where he wants to build his career.
“I truly think I have grown more confident in every aspect of preconstruction.” – Luke Merz
On the jobsite, Andrew is seeing how construction comes together, from the sequence of building a wall to the planning and coordination that keep multiple trades moving. With guidance from our team members, he’s participating in safety meetings, coordinating with subcontractors, and gaining experience that has exceeded his expectations.
“Overall I have been learning and gaining invaluable experience that I couldn’t have even imagined before this internship.” – Andrew Schelfhout
We’re grateful to the teammates who take the time to answer questions, explain the why, and give our interns room to grow. And to Luke and Andrew: thank you for your curiosity, effort, and everything you’re contributing along the way.
The future of our industry grows through opportunities like these. Thank you to Texas A&M University Construction Science Department and the Construction Industry Advisory Council (CIAC) for helping connect students with opportunities to learn, contribute, and build their futures. We’re proud to play a part. Gig ’em! 👍
