Construction Safety Week took place nationwide last week with a theme focused on how we’re “All In Together” and the impact of workers who Recognize, Respond, and Respect safety conditions on every jobsite.

At WA Patriot, safety is always first. Our strong safety culture, proactive communication, and commitment to accountability have helped us maintain an industry-low EMR while protecting our employees, trade partners, and clients.

Throughout the week, WA Patriot held toolbox talks and safety luncheons across our jobsites to refresh knowledge, strengthen awareness, and encourage open conversations about safety among employees and subcontractors.

Topics included Recognizing Hazards, Responding to Hazards, Respecting Hazards, Fall Protection, and Best Practices for Maintaining a Safe Work Environment.

Safety is everyone’s job, and by working together, we reinforce our culture and standards that help ensure every team member goes home safe every day.

WA Patriot adopted the wish of 6-year-old Avery through the Make-A-Wish Alaska & Washington program where she will experience her dream vacation with a trip to Disney World. While we await the finalization of the details of her trip, WA Patriot put together a "wish enhancement" gift basket full of toys from her favorite movies and Disney characters, along with fun items she can bring on her trip. We are so pleased that Avery enjoyed her wish enhancements and we are excited for her upcoming trip to Disney World.

As part of our safety culture and to reaffirm our safety commitment, WA Patriot participated in Construction Safety Week and OSHA's National Stand Down during the week of May 1 - May 5 with demonstrations, safety training, and safety stand downs. Project teams demonstrated their commitment to maintaining high safety standards and shared heartfelt stories about past safety incidents. There was involvement from apprentices, foremen and subcontractors who reminded us all how quickly a normal day can turn unsafe, and it really contributed to a great week of safety talks and meetings.

WA Patriot once again participated in Peninsula School District's Career and Pathways Expo (CAPE) at Harbor Ridge Middle School. CAPE is an event that engages and promotes 6th through 8th-grade females in STEM pathways. The event includes a motivational keynote speaker and an Expo with teachers showcasing Science and Math core classes, CTE electives, and club opportunities. WA Patriot would like to give a shout out to the Holaday-Parks team for hosting us to a fantastic night of hockey with the Seattle Thunderbirds at Climate Pledge Arena. Our teams enjoyed good food, good friends, and mostly, a great game, where the Thunderbirds completely overpowered the Edmonton Oil Kings 7-0! Thanks to everyone at Holaday-Parks for your partnership!

WA Patriot's partnership with Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington gave 7-year-old SiddaLee the adventure of a lifetime! Her wish to swim with dolphins at Discovery Cove was an experience she will never forget. We are so grateful for the partnership we have with the Make-A-Wish organization in making monumental differences in the lives of children like SiddaLee!

The WA Patriot team rallied again in support of the Tacoma Rescue Mission by helping them on December 8, 2021 with their lunch prep and service at their Downtown Campus. WA Patriot is proud to support such an amazing organization that focuses on the homeless crisis we are facing in our community and our country – and that includes Veterans. They have a Veterans Resource Center located at the Downtown Campus, which provides direct service, assistance and guidance to our community’s homeless veterans who are in need of shelter and food. TRM links them with needed services while offering support and encouragement, and has a 10-bed dorm reserved just for them that has been full since the day it opened. TRM partners with the US Veteran’s Affairs Administration to make these services available to our Veterans.

Construction is underway on a new 10,000 sf facility for the Gig Harbor Peninsula Fish Food Bank. The new, larger home will help GHP FISH serve clients, volunteers and the community well into the future and allow more efficient processing and storage of donated food and other items. It offers expanded shopping areas and has room for an expanded clothing and household goods area, a conference room for groups, and private offices to provide a place for confidential client meetings. WA Patriot’s Mac Stanton, Zerah Florance, Alex Powell, Rory Godinez and Phil Kvamme have worked together with the owners and design team to get this project off to a great start. We look forward to a successful finish in spring/early summer of 2022.

WA Patriot is honored to have been part of granting seven-year-old Penny’s wish to have an accessible sport court. With this wish, Penny and her twin have a chance to play wheelchair basketball—one of their favorite hobbies—together in their backyard. This is the fourth wish that WA Patriot has granted together with , who has been granting local wishes for 35 years. We look forward to many more years of wish-granting with this amazing organization!
