STEM students in Lakeville, MN learn about energy by using their own human power to light different kinds of light bulbs.

As they crank our Human Power Generator, the bulbs will like depending on how much energy they put in to cranking the generator. There are LED, CFL, and incandescent bulbs. If they turn on every bulb, it’s very hard to crank the generator. If they do one at a time, it’s very easy. Also easy to feel the difference in energy it takes to light each one. LED being the easiest to power, CFL being a little harder, and Incandescent being the hardest.

Well, the answer is, they do a lot! Charge batteries, power lights and sound systems, slot car racing, floating balls, bubble machines, electric plasma balls, tv’s and video games and anything you can think of. We have installed our Exercise Bike Generators in science centers around the country to teach kids about energy. Some include The Arizona Science Center, Children’s Museum of Stockton, The Oregon Zoo, Discovery Center Museum of Rockford, IKEA in Burbank, just to name a few.
