It’s Winter in Illinois.
Luckily, it has been rather mild, and we haven’t needed to keep the heat high.

That said, there’s been some big changes in the Ameren Illinois market.
Historically, AmerenIL changed their rates twice a year.
Lower in the Summer months, June thru October, and higher in the Winter months, November thru May.
For the 7 years I’ve worked with Ambit Energy, they have consistently adjusted their rates based on market conditions. Specifically, whenever AmerenIL changed their rates. In the last 7 years Ambit Energy has been consistent in providing good competitive rates.

This year, for the first time in at least 7 years, Ambit Energy is no longer competitive for the vast majority of passive Residential and Commercial in AmerenIL territory that just want to pay their bill without being asked to jump thru hoops to possibly get a better rate.

Residential customers on a 12 month plan that expires this month, which had been 4.3cents* per kilowatt for their Electric Supply on their AmerenIL electric bill, will now automatically renew at 8 cents* per kilowatt.
AmerenIL will always be your default Electric Supplier.
AmerenIL’s Residential Electric Supply rate is between 5.2 and 5.4 cents.
Any Ambit Energy customer in AmerenIL territory that renewed under that rate can change their Ambit plan that suits them better, or cancel their Ambit plan and return to Ameren for their Electric Supply.

For non-residential properties(Business/Church/etc), Ambit Energy’s best plan for Electric Supply on your AmerenIL electric bill for at least the last 7 years has consistently been the Illinois Commercial Variable plan. For the first 4 months of 2021 it was 3.95 cents per kilowatt. Now, it is 6.85 cents*.
For any business or church on that plan that that want a lower rate, there are 2 options. 1)Change your plan to Illinois Commercial 12 Month Fixed Plan at 6.2 cents*, or 2), cancel Ambit from your AmerenIL bill and go back to your default Electric Supplier, AmerenIL at 6.04 cents.

With all that said, keep in mind that AmerenIL will be changing their Electric Supply rates after January 31, 2022. I have no idea what their new rates will be. But, I do know that we are experiencing inflation Nationwide. It is not likely AmerenIL is lowering their rate Feb 1st 2022.

We change the filters before we have to kick on the heater.
It’s getting darker earlier, so the lights come on earlier, and more often.
Kids are still in and out of the fridge, in and out of rooms leaving lights on, constantly plugged in, charging, and bingeing their favorite kid shows, etc.
