Construction bid that looks way too good to be true? Don’t panic 😂

It doesn’t automatically mean the contractor is bad or trying to cut corners. But before you get too excited about saving money, do yourself a favor:
Get 2 more bids so you can compare apples to apples.🍎

Then actually look at the scope of work. What’s included? What’s not? Because that “cheaper” bid can get real expensive real quick when you start adding things later 💰

Also, ask about the construction timeline. Know what’s supposed to happen, when it’s supposed to happen, and what the schedule looks like from start to finish.

And please… check the contractor’s license. 🧠‼️

You don’t have to pick the most expensive contractor. You just want to understand what you’re actually paying for.

More than 18 months after the Eaton Fire, thousands of Altadena families are still waiting to return home.
According to Los Angeles County data:

• 6,746 housing units were damaged or destroyed in the Eaton Fire burn area
• 3,443 rebuild applications had been submitted as of June 19, 2026
• 2,845 building permits had been issued
• 1,665 residential units were under construction
• Only 89 homes had officially completed construction at that point

That means more than 6,600 housing units had not yet reached completed reconstruction based on the County's June 19 figures.

And while the rebuilding process is moving forward, the bigger question is how we rebuild.

Fire resistant construction, resilient building materials, thoughtful design and proper planning can all be part of the conversation when developing a new home in a wildfire affected area.
