Sometimes you get a phone call about a job and really question where it’s going to lead. But it’s important to stay with it — because you never know what that call might turn into.
This job might not have been overly complex from a fabrication standpoint, but it’s a pretty damn cool example of just how big of a project a small shop can get involved in.
We spent the last two days working on a brand-new 138kV transformer that had sustained damage during transport. Our part of the project was to fabricate a replacement lid for the damaged unit, precision cut in-house and brought to the site to help get the transformer back on track.
From there, we worked alongside a confined space rescue team, the utility company, and Total Transformer Services out of Canada to get the project handled safely and efficiently.
A lot of moving parts, a lot of coordination, and plenty of rain — but the job still had to get done.
Rain or shine… and this time, we definitely got rained on. 😂
Total Transformer Services handles a number of projects throughout our territory, and after working together on this one, they told us we’ll be a great asset to have locally. We’re looking forward to working alongside their team again on future projects.
For a small welding and fabrication shop, getting the opportunity to play a part in a project involving a brand-new 138kV transformer is pretty damn cool — and a good reminder that you never know where answering that next phone call might take you.
