Snow Proof Signals in the news again!

Winter storms and windy conditions frequently pack Wood River traffic signals with snow., and ITD's signals electricians have to clean them off by hand. But this one new solution might change that.

01/02/2024

The next round of snow will spread northeast across the area Thursday afternoon and evening. Most of this snow will be light, but temperatures will be cold enough to support snow accumulation on roads and slick travel conditions. Snow will end by Friday morning except in the mountains where snow showers linger through the day.

Are your traffic signals ready?

This summer, we took a step in the Wood River Valley area to tackle a snowy problem - traffic signals obscured by snow! ❄️

The solution? Snow cones!

These specially designed cones we ordered let wind pass through, blowing away snow and allowing you to see the light colors even when it piles up 🚦

The benefits are simple:
✅ Safer roads for everyone
✅ Smoother traffic flow
✅ Better service for you
✅ Time-saving for us

Our journey began with D4 Traffic Signal Electrician Nick, who spotted this recurring issue. Electrician Byron has now taken the reins, handling both snow cone installation and ordering more as needed.
