Matt Croatt with Croatt Heating & Air Conditioning gave me some excellent pointers to help all of us homeowners get through this week's hot spell!

1. Make sure your outside A/C unit is clean. If you haven't cleaned out the cottonwood seeds from there, now is the perfect time to do it!
2. Check your filter on the inside unit and replace it if needed.

Bonus tip: make sure to adjust your thermostat by a few degrees. Typically, adjusting temperatures between 5-8 degrees (down in winter, up in summer) can help save money and energy. If you have a programmable thermostat, you can automatically adjust the temperature for different times of the day or during times you're going to be away from home for several hours.

Matt began doing heating & air when he was 15 years old in his small Iowa town. From there, he went to college & worked in Sioux City. He then moved to Brookings, SD for a year then went to Iowa City, where he met his future wife, Jodi Lee, of Glenwood. The couple married in 2006 and moved to Glenwood in 2008. where he started his own business. Matt & Jodi's family has grown to include their three children: Jake, Josh, and Shea.

Since then, Matt has focused on servicing existing all brands of residential and light commercial heating and air conditioning systems.

"I try to keep maintaining and keeping things running; I'm not a big fan on trying to sell people new systems." (If a customer is in need of a new unit, though, Croatt also does sales.)

Matt was a one-man show until 5 years ago, when he brought on Glenwood native, Dalton Book, who graduated from Des Moines Area Community College with an AS degree in Heating, Cooling, and Refrigeration.

Matt & Jodi Croatt and Dalton are appreciative of the support they have received from the Mills County & surrounding communities and see a bright future ahead.
