Back to School Means School Bus Safety!

As students head back to school, let's all do our part to keep them safe.
When you see a school bus:

🟡 Yellow flashing lights indicate the bus is preparing to stop. Slow down and be prepared to stop.
đź”´ Red flashing lights and an extended stop arm mean children are getting on or off the bus. Stop and remain stopped until the lights stop flashing and the stop arm is retracted.

Remember:
✔️ Watch carefully for children near the roadway—they can be unpredictable.
✔️ Never pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing.
✔️ Leave plenty of space behind the bus and stay alert in school zones.

One moment of patience can save a child's life.

Let's work together to ensure this school year is safe for every student in our communities.

College Electrical Safety: Smart Habits for Campus Life

Heading off to college or living in a dorm? Whether you're settling into a new room or returning to campus, it's important to keep electrical safety in mind.

Follow these simple tips to help prevent electrical hazards:
✅ Avoid overloading outlets — use power strips with built-in safety features only as recommended.
✅ Never use damaged cords — replace any that are frayed, cracked, or worn.
✅ Keep cords clear — never run electrical cords under rugs, through doorways, or where they can be damaged.
✅ Charge devices safely — never charge phones, laptops, or other devices under your pillow or in your bedding.
✅ Report electrical problems — notify campus staff right away if you notice sparks, overheating outlets, or other electrical concerns.

A few smart habits can help keep your dorm room, your roommates, and your campus community safer.

At RVEC, safety is always our top priority. Stay aware, make safe choices, and enjoy a successful year on campus!

Where Does Your Electric Dollar Go?

When you pay your electric bill, the largest portion goes toward the electricity that powers your home and business.

At least 65¢ of every dollar paid to Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative goes directly toward the cost of wholesale power, the electricity we purchase before delivering it safely and reliably to our members.

The remaining portion helps cover the essential costs of providing electric service, including:
🔹 Maintaining more than 1,400 miles of power lines
🔹 Upgrading poles, transformers, and other equipment
🔹 Restoring power after storms and outages
🔹 Investing in technology and system reliability
🔹 Supporting the dedicated employees who work around the clock to serve our members

As a not-for-profit, member-owned electric cooperative, we focus every decision on providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity while responsibly investing in the future of our electric system.

Thank you for being a valued member of Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative!

Where Does Your Electricity Come From?

It takes a diverse mix of energy sources to provide the safe, reliable, and affordable electricity our members rely on every day.

By using a variety of generation resources—including renewables, natural gas, coal, hydroelectric power, and other sources—electric cooperatives can better meet changing energy demands while maintaining reliability year-round.

At Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative, we're committed to delivering the power you need today while planning for tomorrow's energy needs.

That's the cooperative difference.

RVEC Office Closure – Employee Training

Our office will be closed on August 17 and 18 from 8:00 to 1:00 because our employees are participating in important training on our Outage Management System (OMS). Our after-hours call center will take calls, and our crews will remain available to respond to outages.

At RVEC, investing in our employees is investing in our members. This training helps us learn, grow, and strengthen the service we provide to our communities.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Protect Yourself from Online Scams

One of the easiest ways to strengthen your online security is to create strong, unique passwords.

Here are a few simple tips to help keep your accounts secure:
âś… Use a long password or passphrase made of several unrelated words.
âś… Avoid using personal information such as birthdays, names, or addresses.
✅ Create a unique password for each account—if one account is compromised, the others remain protected.
âś… Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA) whenever it's available for an extra layer of security.

At Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative, we're committed to helping our members stay safe, not only around electricity but also online.

Remember, scammers are always seeking new ways to steal personal information. A few simple security habits can make a big difference.
