We’re excited to launch Vescent’s 2026 Innovation Award: Contest To Win a RUBRIComb®!

Researchers at U.S. universities and non-profit research institutions are invited to submit a short proposal describing how they would use a RUBRIComb® optical frequency comb system across applications in quantum technologies, precision timing, spectroscopy, photonics, sensing, and beyond.

One selected proposal will receive a RUBRIComb® system and SLICE FPGA-II locking platform to support their research efforts.

More details and submission information below 👇

Are you a researcher at a US-based university or non-profit research institution? Do you want a frequency comb to advance your research? Do you like getting high-value lab equipment for free? You're in the right place!

We are excited to welcome Derik Kraych to our team as our new Fiber Optics System Technician!

After a five-year stint in the military, Derik moved to New York City for college, where a longstanding interest in math led him to pursue a degree in physics. During his studies, he participated in astrophysics research focused on the search for dark matter and continued in that work for two years after graduating. Through this experience, he discovered a passion for tackling novel problems and applying his skills in meaningful ways.

Outside of work, Derik stays active and enjoys exploring the outdoors. Having grown up in Michigan without much elevation, he finds the mountains in Colorado especially compelling and spends time hiking, camping, and cycling, primarily on the road, though he’s increasingly tempted to pick up trail biking. He also enjoys dancing, live music, and catching the occasional hockey game.

Welcome, Derik! Happy to have you here!

We are excited to welcome Ryan T. Rhoades to our team as our new Staff Scientist!

Ryan received his PhD and MS in Optical Sciences from the Wyant College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona after earning a BS in Physics and Applied Mathematics from Florida State University. During his time at Arizona, he worked in Dr. R. Jason Jones’ group, conducting dual-comb spectroscopy (DCS) research focused on metal oxides in laser-induced plasmas.

He later joined the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, Colorado, as an NRC postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Ian Coddington’s group, where he performed mid-infrared DCS field measurements of urban atmospheric pollutants and greenhouse gases before joining Vescent. In his new role, he is excited to help expand the capabilities of optical frequency comb applications and continue advancing the state of the art in the field.

Outside of work, Ryan enjoys playing tennis, attending rock shows, and taking advantage of Colorado’s abundant natural spaces (and breweries).

Welcome, Ryan! Happy to have you here!
