Founded by Robert L. Wiggins in 1954, General Industries began with one manufacturing plant that served North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia areas with heating oil tanks. In 1978, the founder’s son, John (Tommy) Wiggins was named president following his father’s death. He has

grown the business into one of the leading tank manufacturers in the industry. As a licensed manufacturer of the Steel Tank Institute and a Petroleum Institute member, General Industries specializes in custom stainless and carbon steel tank fabrications from 50 gallons to 75,000 gallons. We are labeled and listed for above ground and underground tanks per UL, STI, API, and ASME. General Industries works with companies in the petroleum, chemical, water, and waste water industries. As a certified ISO 9001 Quality System company, maintaining the highest standards to produce quality products for customers is our number one goal.

Another tank on the road! 🚛

This 5,000-gallon ACT-100 double-wall underground storage tank is headed to a customer in Virginia.

Every delivery represents more than a finished tank leaving our facility. It represents a customer trusting General Industries to provide the quality, durability and dependable storage solution their operation needs.

Every underground storage tank starts with quality steel—but long-term performance depends on the protection applied inside.

These photos show the General Industries team applying a high-build interior coating designed to help protect the steel from corrosion and extend the service life of the tank.

Our coating process includes:
✔ Application by experienced technicians following the coating manufacturer's specifications
✔ Careful attention to weld seams, corners, and other hard-to-reach areas
✔ Coating thickness verification throughout the application process
✔ A chemically resistant lining designed to withstand demanding underground storage environments

Every coating project is completed to meet strict application requirements because quality isn't just built into the tank—it's built into every step of the manufacturing process.

📍 Headed to Arlington, VA!

General Industries recently delivered an 8,000-gallon Stainless Steel FIREGUARD® tank for our customer Tanks Direct.

Designed for the safe storage of flammable and combustible liquids, FIREGUARD® tanks are built to UL-2085, UL-142, and F-941 standards and feature advanced fire protection technology, including a two-hour fire rating and enhanced impact protection.

We're proud to support Tanks Direct with another high-quality storage solution and appreciate the opportunity to be part of this project.

🚛 Another Custom Tank Headed to Its Destination

This rectangular diesel Applied Thermal tank is on its way to Trenton, New Jersey, where it will be installed to support backup power operations for one of our customers.
