Week One of the Rex Lumber Training Facility Summer School Bootcamp was a success!

After a competitive application process, 15 students ages 17 to 20 were selected to participate in this free program.

Throughout the week, students learned important safety protocols, toured multiple mill operations and the machine shop, and participated in hands-on activities focused on measurements and shop math.

We're excited to see them continue building their skills and knowledge throughout the remainder of the program.

Between her work at the mill, dual enrollment at Chipola College, and a 4.4 GPA, Lucy has accomplished an impressive amount during her high school career.

Lucy is pictured with her father, Cirilo Zuniga Alvardo, a valued member of the Rex Lumber team for the past 13 years, and her mother, Conchy Tun.

Rex Lumber’s “Get the Job” competition is about more than winning. It’s about giving students the chance to practice professional interview skills and prepare for future careers.

Poplar Springs High School seniors Dillon Waddell (right) and Joanna Duque (left) recently participated in the competition, using the experience they’ve gained from summer and part-time jobs to help them navigate the interview process with confidence.

The competition came down to a single question, with Dillon narrowly taking first place. Both students represented themselves exceptionally well and were presented with gift cards by HR Manager Deanna Halstead.

1,730 days without a lost time injury is something worth celebrating. 👏

On April 29th, we celebrated this milestone with a lunch featuring freshly made pork and beef sausages from Chipola Meats Processing, chips, Famous Amos cookies, and Melissa Kirkland’s candied jalapeños that quickly became a favorite.

Milestones like this take teamwork, focus, and employees who look out for one another every single day.
