“WE'LL KNOW IT WHEN WE SEE IT.”

I've heard some version of that sentence from a lot of clients over the years.

And I understand exactly what they mean.

You can spend months saving photographs, walking through homes, studying floor plans and making lists. You may know the kitchen you like, the materials you don't, and a dozen things your current house has taught you never to do again.

But that doesn't necessarily mean you can describe your future home in a few sentences.

You don't have to.

Part of building a truly custom home is taking all of those individual thoughts and figuring out what belongs together - and, just as importantly, what doesn't.

That's a process I still enjoy.

There usually comes a point when the drawings, materials, proportions and little decisions begin to feel less like a collection of ideas and more like your home.

That's the moment we're working toward.

You don't need to walk through our door knowing exactly what you want.

Bring us what you know. We'll work through the rest together.

I've always believed the property should have a say in the home you build on it.

A beautiful piece of land already has a personality. It may have a view worth protecting, mature trees you don't want to lose, an unusual approach, or simply a certain way the morning and evening light move across it.

Those things matter.

When we begin thinking about a custom home, we're not just asking how the house will look. We're thinking about how it will sit on the property. What you'll see when you walk through the front door. Where you'll want to spend an evening outside. Which direction the important rooms should face. And what should remain untouched.

Sometimes the best decision isn't adding something to a design. It's knowing when to work with what's already there.

When it's done well, the house and the property shouldn't feel like two separate decisions.

They should feel like they were always meant to be together.

Media: Go big and simple. I'd choose one of your strongest wide exterior or aerial photographs where the property surrounding the home is clearly visible. No collage. No heavy graphic treatment. If we add anything, just the exact CTCH logo small in a corner.

WHAT 40 YEARS LEAVES BEHIND

Every once in a while, I'll drive through an area where we've built homes over the years and realize just how much time has passed.

A house we built for a young family may now be the place their grandchildren come to visit.

That puts this business into perspective.

When you're in the middle of construction, it's easy to focus on what's directly in front of you - plans, schedules, selections, decisions and all the little problems that have to be solved along the way.

But the house isn't really being built for construction day.

It's being built for everything that comes afterward.

Birthdays. Christmas mornings. Family dinners. Kids leaving for college and coming back home. Quiet Tuesday evenings that nobody takes a picture of.

We've been fortunate to build some remarkable homes over the past four decades. I'm proud of those homes.

But knowing what happened inside them after we handed over the keys means even more.

To everyone who has trusted us with a home over the years, thank you.

You've given our work a purpose far beyond simply building houses.

WE'VE MOVED!

A new chapter for Chris Thomas Custom Homes.

After many years at our previous location, we're excited to announce that Chris Thomas Custom Homes has moved to a new office at:

901 Tucker Way
Granbury, TX

Our new location gives us something we've needed for a while - more room to work, meet with clients, and continue growing.

We'll have larger private offices, an expanded conference room, dedicated reception and kitchen areas, additional storage and archive space, and considerably more parking. The new location also gives us easier access from Highway 51, including better access for trucks and trailers.

You'll find us just north of the square on Highway 51, in front of the pickleball facility and across from Granbury Baptist Church.

One important note: Google Maps is currently showing the new address correctly, but Apple Maps/iPhone navigation has not caught up with the change yet.

As part of the move, our office phones and email will be temporarily down this Friday. We appreciate your patience while we get everything transferred and settled into our new home.

We're looking forward to welcoming our past clients, current clients, friends, and future homeowners to 901 Tucker Way.

We've built homes in this community for more than 40 years, and we're excited about what comes next.

“Before You Bring Us Plans, Bring Us Questions.”

A lot of people think they need to have everything figured out before they talk to a custom builder.

You don't.

In fact, I'd rather have the conversation early.

Bring us the property you're considering. Bring the pictures you've saved. Bring the wish list that may be a little too long. Bring the budget you're trying to understand.

And bring the questions you aren't sure who to ask.

Some of the most valuable conversations we have with future homeowners happen well before construction begins. There may be an easier way to accomplish something. An idea may cost considerably more than expected. Or there may be an opportunity they haven't considered yet.

I'd much rather have those conversations around a table than after concrete has been poured.

You don't need all the answers to start talking about building a home.

That's part of what we're here for.

“Would We Build It the Same Way Today?”

I've been building homes long enough to go back and visit houses we completed many years ago.

I enjoy doing that.

Styles change. Kitchens change. Technology certainly changes. But a well-designed home has a way of aging gracefully.

When I walk back into one of our older homes, I'm not looking to see whether every finish is still fashionable.

I'm looking at whether the rooms still feel right. Whether the proportions work. Whether the craftsmanship has held up. Whether the decisions we made years ago are still serving the family who lives there.

There are always new products and new ideas worth considering. We've never stopped learning.

But I've also learned that building for the latest trend and building something meant to last are two very different things.

I'd rather look back at a home twenty years later and still be proud to say:

We built that.

“Some of Our Best Ideas Weren’t Ours.”

One of the things I've enjoyed most about building custom homes is that every client brings something new to the table.

I've had homeowners arrive with a photograph they've saved for years. A sketch on a piece of paper. An idea they saw while traveling. Sometimes it's something they remember from the house they grew up in.

And sometimes they simply know how they want a room to feel, even if they aren't sure how to describe it yet.

That's where the fun begins.

Our job isn't to convince someone to build our version of their home. It's to listen, ask the right questions, and figure out how to turn those ideas into something that works beautifully when it's actually built.

After all these years, our clients are still showing us things we haven't seen before.

I hope that never changes.

If you've been collecting ideas for your someday home, we'd enjoy hearing about them.

**THE DETAILS | Custom Cabinetry**

Cabinets are one of those things homeowners interact with every single day, which is why I've never thought of them as just another finish selection.

Good cabinetry starts with figuring out how the room is actually going to be used.

What needs to be within reach when you're cooking? Where do you want the things you use every morning? What would you rather have tucked away? How much storage does this particular family really need?

Then we can start talking about wood, paint, hardware, proportions, and all of the things that give the cabinetry its character.

When those decisions are made in the right order, the result doesn't just look good in photographs. The room works better.

And ten years later, that's probably going to matter a lot more.

That's one of the things I enjoy about building a truly custom home. We have the opportunity to think through those details with the people who are actually going to live with them.

A finished home gets all the attention. That's understandable. It's the part everyone gets to see.

But some of the work I'm proudest of will eventually be covered up.

The foundation. The framing. The insulation. The mechanical systems. The waterproofing. All of the things that have to be done correctly before the finishes ever begin going in.

I've always believed that if we're going to put our name on a home, the quality behind the walls needs to matter just as much as what you see when you walk through the front door.

A beautiful kitchen can be remodeled someday. Paint colors will change. Flooring will eventually be replaced.

The bones of the house are a different story.

That's why we pay attention long before there's anything glamorous to photograph.

A custom home isn't just being built for move-in day. We're building it with the expectation that it will still be serving that family many years from now.
