With the wildfire smoke affecting Michigan, now is a great time to check your furnace filter.

While it might seem like a higher MERV filter is better, most home HVAC systems perform best with a low MERV filter (MERV 5–8) unless your system was specifically designed for higher-efficiency filters. A filter that’s too restrictive can reduce airflow and put unnecessary strain on your equipment.

If your filter is dirty from the smoky air, replacing it can help keep your system running efficiently. Stay safe, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about your HVAC system!

And with more HOT weather in the area here are a few things to help your home stay cooler: close curtains and blinds during the day to block the sun’s heat, keep your oven off as much as possible (it’s a great time to use the grill) and seal any gaps or air leaks around windows and doors; these things will help keep excess heat from building in your home!
Also, remember to check your furnace filter and change it if it’s dirty. Your HVAC equipment likes lots of air flow to continue working to its fullest potential!!
