We were thrilled to learn that Imagine Muskegon Lake was a recipient of the Michigan Association of Planning Outstanding Implementation Award at the 2026 Planning Excellence Awards.
The Imagine Muskegon Lake plan is a visionary framework designed to harmonize Muskegon's urban growth and industrial roots with its natural shoreline assets. The goal of this plan wasn’t to emulate another place, but to empower the people to advance, sustain, connect, and convene with the waterfront in their own ways. As a result, levels of service have been maintained and access to the shoreline and waterfront activity has been enhanced. New public and private waterfront development has built upon this baseline, providing needed resources like quality housing and expanded trails, marine facilities, and fish habitat.
