Concrete is one of the most widely used construction materials for building structures like foundations, roads, walls, pavements, etc. After concrete is poured, it continues to gain strength over time, with most strength gain occurring in the first 28 days following placement. In the field, MTC technicians perform tests on concrete to determine whether it meets design specifications, and then transport samples to our in-house lab where strength testing is performed at specified ages to estimate the in-place concrete strength.

Here is a story that shows why what we do is more than construction 🤎

While on a project site for paving, one of our field technicians met a friendly couple who stopped by to watch the work and ask questions about the process.

The wife shared that she uses a wheelchair and had not crossed the street in nearly five years because the roadway and crossing conditions were too rough and difficult to navigate. With the local library right across the street, it was hard to hear that something so close to home wasn't easily accessible to her for so long.

Later in the day, she returned again a couple blocks away with a friend, eager to watch the work continue.

Her excitement was a powerful reminder that the roads, sidewalks, and infrastructure we help improve are about more than pavement and construction. They can restore access, independence, and connection to the community for the people who use them every day.

✅ Floor Flatness (FF) and Levelness (FL) Test

An FF test is a measurement of how wavy/bumpy a concrete floor is. Higher FF numbers indicate a floor that would be good for ride quality of forklifts or other equipment

A FL test is a measurement of longer interval levelness across the tested section. Higher FL numbers indicate a floor that would be good for shelving/racking or drainage.
