Yesterday, two MDOT workers were killed in a work zone. These men woke up yesterday morning, kissed their families, put on their gear, and clocked in just like they had done hundreds of times before.

But they didn’t come home.

Every day, the men and women who work in traffic zones are trusting drivers to do the right thing. They are someone’s husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, friend. They are somebody’s everything.

And right now, two families are missing theirs.

This loss is felt across our entire industry, and we grieve alongside everyone who knew them.

Slow down, move over, and pay attention.

A work zone might cost you a few minutes travel time but Ignoring one can cost someone their future.

She already gets it — the whole point. Put the phone down. Pay attention. Make sure everyone gets home. The message is just that pure and simple. If a little one already knows the assignment, maybe it’s time the rest of us caught up. 🙏🧡

Drive like someone is waiting for you at home. Because they are. 💛➡️🧡

This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week. And this one hits different when it’s your people.

Every morning, our crews leave their families and head out into the dark. They put on their gear, set up their equipment, and go to work inches from traffic moving at highway speed. They do it without hesitation because it’s what they do, and they’re proud of it.

But behind every hard hat is a whole life. A kid waiting at home. A spouse who watches for the headlights in the driveway. A parent who checks their phone until they get that “heading home” text.

They deserve to come back to every single one of them.

This week we grieve the workers who didn’t make it home and we wrap our arms around the ones still out there doing the job. Your sacrifice doesn’t go unnoticed. Your courage doesn’t go unnoticed. You don’t go unnoticed.

To our GEBS family and every road partner giving it everything they’ve got- Thank You!

To everyone else: Please Slow down. Move over. Put the phone down.

It costs you nothing. It could save everything.
