Clear the Area: Ensure at least 2–3 feet of clearance around the unit for proper airflow after the storm passes.
Manual Defrosting: If the unit is heavily iced, turn it off at the thermostat and pour lukewarm water (not boiling) over it to melt the ice. Alternatively, run the system in AC mode for 15 minutes to generate heat in the outdoor coils.
Resume Normal Operation: Once the ice is completely cleared and the fan spins freely, remove all covers and switch the thermostat back to "Heat" mode.
