Yesterday I broke one of the blade guide stanchions on my Wells bandsaw, so today was fix your own screw up day. What I failed to show in the pictures is the importance of preheating and post heating the work. Cast iron is brazed because welding causes localized heat inclusion zones where stress cracks abound. You CAN weld cast, but it is tricky, and prone to failure due to composition - thus brazing. This method looks pretty terrible until cleaned up.

Don’t believe me? I’ll post the finished product soon.

Update (2hrs later)

After cleaning this thing up I discovered I’m not the first to braze this part, see if you can spot the fix I didn’t do 😉
