Meet our Featured Farm: Meadowbrook Garden Club in Spring Valley, California.

Since 2023, young growers at Meadowbrook Apartments have been learning, experimenting and growing fresh food with a Flex Farm alongside the Heaven’s Windows team.

The farm donates approximately 325 pounds of fresh food each year, but its impact goes well beyond the harvest. Garden Club participants learn about hydroponics, water quality and where food comes from, then share what they grow and learn with their families, friends and neighbors. The experience is even helping young growers imagine what food production could look like next in their own community.

Thank you to Heaven's Windows, Project Access and the Meadowbrook Garden Club for helping grow fresh food and the next generation of growers.

September is Hunger Action Month, a time to recognize the people and organizations working to address food insecurity in communities every day.

It's also at the heart of why Fork Farms exists.

We believe everyone should have greater access to fresh food. That's why we work with schools, food pantries, hospitals, community organizations and partners like Feeding America to help grow fresh food closer to the people who need it.

Throughout September, we're putting the spotlight on the growers making that mission real.

We'll share their harvests, their stories and the impact they're creating in communities across the Fork Farms network.

Follow along, celebrate the growers with us and help us spread the word.

Fresh food, grown and shared together.

Residents at Highlands at Aero Park 55+ Apartments & Townhomes recently celebrated their first Flex Farm harvest with a community salad party. They grew lettuce, herbs, peas, basil, and microgreens right inside their Green Room, then harvested the greens and built their own salads to enjoy together.

It is a beautiful reminder that a Flex Farm can grow more than food. It can grow connection, curiosity, wellness, and community. 💚

Students always find the best way to describe a Flex Farm.

One student at Christa McAuliffe Middle School said it looks like something “that would save the human race if in need.” Honestly, we love the vision.

Susan Hawkins and her students have been using their Flex Farm to explore plant growth, food, science, and curiosity in real time. Their handwritten reflections say it best: students are noticing how many types of plants can grow, watching the greens thrive, and connecting with the process from seedling to harvest.

This is what hands-on learning can look like. A classroom full of questions, observations, fresh greens, and a little Interstellar energy.

Thank you to Susan Hawkins and the students for sharing your photos, notes, and Flex Farm experience with us.

We’ve seen the Flex Farm thrive in schools, food pantries, corporate offices, and community spaces. Now, the Highlands at Aero Park 55+ Apartments & Townhomes is showing how indoor hydroponic growing can support healthy aging, social connection, and fresh food access in elder care communities too.

Residents are growing vegetables, herbs, seedlings, and microgreens on-site with their new Flex Farm and Flex Micro systems. Their resident “Green Team” is helping maintain the farms, support year-round growing, and create new opportunities for connection, wellness, and hands-on learning.

Fresh food is powerful. Growing it together is even better.

Thank you to the Highlands at Aero Park residents and team for welcoming us. We can’t wait to see what you grow next!

Tag a senior living community, wellness director, or shared space that should be growing fresh food year-round.

Months after being filmed by PBS Wisconsin, the students of Forest Home Avenue School came together again to celebrate something they helped build. 🌱

Teacher and Farm Manager, Glorimar Meléndez, hosted a special watch party for current and former students, families, and the Hydro-Farm Club to watch the PBS segment that highlighted their work growing fresh food at school.

Students made pesto, blended smoothies with kale they had grown, watched themselves on screen, and reflected on how much they have accomplished.

Moments like these remind us that growing food is about so much more than harvests. It's about confidence, connection, and creating experiences that stay with students long after they leave the classroom.

Have you seen the heartwarming PBS feature yet?
