Margaret was a part of New Process from the early seventies until she retired in 2007.

Her husband, Marvin, came to work with my dad in 1969 as the plant manager. Dad and Marvin ran the place and were almost like partners. Over the years, many members of the Warner family worked at New Process, so we are truly a family here, a family business as well but there have been many such families who have been a part of the company, not just my family.

Margaret was a kind, sweet soul, understanding but also firm... she would scold me like only a mother could and I certainly needed it at the time and could probably use some more of it these days. She was actually only a few weeks older than my mother.

She and her spirit and the spirit of those like her, that generation, have been greatly missed these last twenty years here at New Process.

Here's some more information regarding the Greenwood Colored School 222C that once stood on the East side of North First Street, just North of New Process Fibre, just outside of town limits of the Town of Greenwood, Delaware.

The state of Delaware will be marking the site of the former school with an historic marker to be dedicated in a ceremony scheduled for Friday, July 17, 2026, at 1 pm.

Mr. Bryant T. Bell, who grew up in Greenwood and attended the school in his youth has been working for several years on this project and his efforts have finally come to fruition.

Mr. Bell, son of Booker T. Bell who was a well-known artist and sign painter in lower Delaware in the sixties, seventies, and eighties, graduated from Woodbridge High School, class of 1970. He attended school 222C for his grade school education.

Prior to the US Supreme Court decision in Brown vs. Board of Education in 1954, the law of the land was “separate but equal” which had been ruled in 1896 as a result of the Court’s Plessy vs. Ferguson decision which allowed public schools to be segregated as long as they were “equal”. In 1954, Brown vs. Board determined that “separate but equal” did not actually work, that separate was, inherently, unequal. It was the early sixties before all of the schools in Delaware became fully integrated. The last class to graduate from Sussex County’s segregated, Black high school was the class of 1967. That school, in Georgetown, known as the William C. Jason High School, reopened in September of 1967 as the first campus of the Delaware Technical and Community College as it remains to serve to this day.

School 222C sat out front of New Process on the north end of the property. It had been used as a church in later days and was razed in the 1990s due to structural instability.

This coming Friday, July 17 at 1 pm, the State of Delaware will be unveiling a new historic marker just north of Greenwood town limits on the site where the Greenwood Colored School 222-C once stood. The public is invited to join us for this occasion as we remember our history and honor those who went before us.
There are currently more than 700 historic markers in the State of Delaware, and this will be this sixth in the Greenwood area.

All driving restrictions in the State of Delaware lifted as of about 7:30 am Tuesday, February 24.

Driving restrictions lifted statewide effective immediately.

Delaware Governor Meyer has lifted all driving restrictions statewide effective immediately. There are no driving warnings or restrictions in Delaware at this time. Motorists are strongly urged to exercise caution as roadways may still have patches of ice and snow or may experience downed trees in some areas. Drivers should remain vigilant for black ice and proceed with caution when travelling over bridges that tend to freeze.
