Libya's $8 Billion Offshore Gas Project Signals Major Energy Sector Revival

Libya is poised for a significant energy transformation with the launch of its$8 billion Structures A&E offshore gas development. Led by Mellitah Oil & Gas (Eni & NOC), this strategic project is a cornerstone for the nation's economic and energy future.

Key project milestones: ✅Production Start: 2027, with a capacity of 750 million cubic feet per day. ✅European Supply: Reinforces Libya's role as a key natural gas supplier to Europe. ✅Sustainability Focus: Incorporates carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. ✅Contract Award: $235 million project management contract secured by Hill International.

هل يعرف صانعو القرار في ليبيا المخاطر التي تهدد الساحل؟
في 21 يوليو 365 م، ضرب تسونامي مدمر سواحل شمال أفريقيا، ووصلت أمواجه إلى 3 أمتار في شرق ليبيا والإسكندرية، مما تسبب في دمار هائل. اليوم، تكرر الدراسات الحديثة تحذيراتها من خطر زلازل وتسونامي في البحر المتوسط، خاصة مع وجود صدوع نشطة قادرة على إحداث كوارث مماثلة.
العاصمة الليبية تقع على الساحل، حيث تتركز المقرات الوزارية والسيادية، بما في ذلك مصرف ليبيا المركزي، الذي يُعتبر شريان الاقتصاد الليبي.
اليوم 11 أغسطس 2025، تم وضع حجر الأساس لمبنى جديد للمصرف المركزي قرب الساحل!
السؤال المهم : هل تمت دراسة مخاطر التسونامي والزلازل على هذا المبنى؟ وهل سيكون مجهزًا بأنظمة حماية مثل تلك الموجودة في اليابان أو الدول المعرضة للخطر؟
قد يكون الساحل الليبي ليس آمنًا، خاصة مع وجود نشاط زلزالي في المتوسط. مما يعيدنا لترتيب الحسابات حول هذه المنشأت الحيوية والمهمة جدا!
و يجب إجراء تقييم مخاطر دقيق لأي منشآت حيوية قرب الساحل،إعتماد معايير بناء مقاومة للزلازل والتسونامي (مثل الأساسات المرتفعة، الجدران البحرية، أنظمة الإنذار المبكر)، التعاون مع خبراء دوليين (مثل اليابان أو دول المتوسط المتقدمة) لضمان سلامة المنشآت.

BP & Shell Deals to Boost Libya’s Oil Output
Libya, now Africa’s top oil producer, is attracting major investments to revive its energy sector. BP signed an MOU with Libya’s National Oil Corp. (NOC) to assess the rehabilitation of the Sarir and Messla oil fields (among Libya’s largest) and explore unconventional oil and gas potential. BP will reopen its Tripoli office in late 2025, signaling a strong return to Libya.
Similarly, Shell agreed with NOC to evaluate hydrocarbon prospects, including the al-Atshan field, through feasibility studies. These moves come as Libya launches its first bid round in 17 years, offering 22 exploration blocks (onshore and offshore) to attract investment.
Libya aims to boost production to 2 million B/D (up from 1.4 million B/D), requiring $3–4 billion in investments. BP and Shell join other firms like Eni, Repsol, and Turkey’s TPAO in revitalizing Libya’s oil sector after years of conflict and underinvestment.
This marks a major step in Libya’s energy resurgence, with global players betting on its vast hydrocarbon potential.
