Hey gang! Camping season is once again right around the corner ( at least here in South Carolina). I’m super excited because there has been so much advancement in RV Off Grid technology and components.
It is now easier to create a higher voltage system (24 or 48 volts) that is more efficient and can effortlessly run higher draw appliances like Air Conditioning and induction cooktops.
A 24 volt upgrade is perfect for the weekends away with wife and kids that demand hair dryers and constant gaming. A moderate amount of air conditioning can be provided as well. These advanced features can now be provided for almost the same cast as the older 12 volt systems. The batteries are still slightly higher than their 12 volt counterparts, but you are getting so much more for your money. Call or text us today for an estimate on a solar / electric upgrade to make your off grid camping experience a delight for the entire family.

This past week, I had the privilege of helping John S. upgrade his off-road Australian caravan type trailer. I exchanged the stock 200AH battery for a 460AH LiTime lithium battery. We also added a Victron SmartShunt as a Bluetooth battery monitor. The trailer has 300 watts of solar on the pop-up roof with its own pwm controller. John wanted to increase the solar to augment the charging of the new battery. He wanted the flexibility of portable panels, so we added two x 200 to a Renogy 200watt folding panel in series via Anderson connectors to a Victron SmartSolar 100/50 controller in a meet and tight install.

We just finished up on a boondocking installation for the Dean family. We installed 3x 230AH lithium batteries 4 additional 200 wat solar panels to augment the single factory installed panel (total 5x200). We replaced the Victron 50/15 controller with a 150/85 to handle the increased wattage. We fitted a Spartan 3300 watt inverter to power all the outlets, the microwave and the bedroom air conditioner. Also, we installed a SmartShunt to monitor the batteries and system. We were asked to also install the Dean’s rear view camera which we did with a little difficulty because of the factory wiring.

Today we finished another RV Boondocking modification. This is the Hunter Brinkley 5th wheel. We installed 3x 280ah lithium batteries connected thru a SmartShunt to a Lynx Distributor. We are powering the house and a Multiplus II 2x120 to serve the entire RV. We upgraded the single 380 watt panel to 3x 380 watt panels in series to a SmartSolar 250/85 controller and a 2 pole PV breaker. Monitoring and control is via a Cerbo -S GX .

Another week, another boondocking installation. We totally upgraded the solar/electrical system for Ryan and Mary Arnold’s travel trailer. We installed 4x300ah Renogy batteries and added 2 additional 400 watt panels to the single factory installed panel. We swapped out the 30 amp controller for a new Victron SmartSolar 250/100 MPPT and increased the wire size to 4 awg and added a 100amp fused disconnect. We also added a Multiplus II 2x120 inverter in order to power the full distribution panel.

This week we built out the electrical system for the Crouch van build. We fit 4x200 watt panels on the roof running in series to a Victron SmartSolar 150/60 controller. Also installed was the Victron Orion MS 50amp B2B chsrger. Two 230AH lithium batteries provide power for the Victron Multiplus 12/3000 inverter/charger that furnishes AC power to the distribution center. We provided circuits for microwave, water heater and outlets for kitchen appliances on the AC side; and for diesel heater, water filter, water pump, vents, lights, circulation fans, and refrigerator on the 12v side.
A Cerbo GX and touch 50 screen was installed to monitor and control the system.

This week we did the installation for Andrew Dunton from Seneca, SC. We fit 4 x 200watt panels on the roof of his camper in 2s2p configuration to a combiner on the roof. We came down the inside of a full length wardrobe into the front compartment where we mounted the SmartSolar 150/60 controller and the Lynx Distributor. We mounted 4x 100AH lithium batteries ( secured with angle aluminum)and the Multiplus 3000 in the pass thru storage compartment where we mounted the Victron SmartShunt. Everything was wired via fused connections to the distributor. We also mounted the ve Bus smart dongle to allow remote control of the inverter. We wired the Multiplus to the AC breaker panel to provide “ whole house” power while Boondocking .
Happy camping , Andrew!

This weekend we got the opportunity to install some underglow lights for a customer here in the Greenville area. They are million color led tube lights with a hardwired controller and two remote hubs. One hub for driver side and rear the other hub for patio side and front. We also installed special lighting to illuminate the grill. We are pleased with the results and the customer was delighted. Call us to underglow your rig as well.

Yesterday we installed a new boondocking system for the Bowens in Landrum, SC.
We took the factory installed solar charging components and upgraded the Furrion 40 amp controller to a Victron SmartSolar 100/50 and increased the panels from the factory 180 watt rigid to a total of 780 with the placement of 3 x 200 watt flexible panels that the customer had previously purchased, all wired in series.
We also added a fused disconnect to the PV side of the controller to pair with the factory solar cutoff switch on the battery side.
We fitted two x 200AH lithium batteries in the front pass thru storage area along with a SmartShunt, 400amp MegaFuse and buss bars. The original battery wiring was upgraded to 4/0 from battery to the 3000 watt inverter and chassis ground. The factory 12 volt wiring was also upgraded from 8awg to 6awg from the buss bars to the fuse connections.
The inverter was wired to provide power to the full 120volt distribution panel via an external transfer switch.
For additional charging a Victron Orion (B2B) charger was fitted to provide alternator charging while attached to the tow vehicle. The input is via 6awg and Anderson connectors from vehicle battery to Orion. The Bowens will have a choice of charging from shore power, solar and /or alternator and the ability to use their full electrical system.
We wish them many happy years of “Boondocking with Solar”!

This week we did a battery and electrical update on the Krozer’s new East West class C motorhome.
We added a new Maxxair fan, and installed a SoftStartRV on the air conditioner. Then we added two new Epoch 460AH lithium batteries for 920 total capacity. We added a Victron Orion 12/12-30 B2B charger and a Victron 3000va inverter to run the “whole house”. All incoming power is monitored by a progressive industries EMS hardwired between transfer switch and service panel.
The batteries are monitored via a Bluetooth SmartShunt and the inverter is controlled by the Ve Bus Smart.
We wish the Krozers much fun out seeing the great US of A.
