For years, the mindset with alfalfa weevil was to wait it out. Let the first cutting take care of it or hope for rain to knock populations back. With today’s hay value and the importance of quality feed, that approach can cost you.
This year especially, with earlier pressure and visible feeding already showing up, waiting may not be the best option. The further we get from harvest, the more damage these weevils can do. Early scouting and timely treatment can make a big difference. Smaller larvae are easier to control, and catching them early can help protect both yield and quality.
If you are seeing activity, now is the time to take a closer look and talk through a plan with your Logan Ag team.
