One small thermostat setting can make a big difference during Gulf Coast cooling season.

When your fan is set to “ON,” it runs continuously, even when the system is not actively cooling. That can keep moisture moving through the system instead of allowing it to drain properly.

For better humidity control, set your fan to “AUTO” and let the system cycle the way it was designed to.

Some homes may need more frequent duct cleaning than others.

Gulf Coast Air Care highlights three situations to watch for: pets in the home, renovation work that created extra dust, and allergy or asthma sensitivity concerns. If your ducts have not been checked recently, a professional look can help you understand what may be affecting airflow and comfort.

In Gulf Coast homes, moisture control plays a major role in indoor air quality.

Because HVAC systems naturally collect moisture around the coil, that area can become a common place for microbial growth. A properly installed UV light can help reduce that buildup, but it needs to be placed where it can actually target the problem area.

Like any HVAC component, UV lights also need to be checked and maintained over time.

Curious whether your system would benefit from one?

Before you add attic insulation, make sure you are not covering up a problem that should be checked first.

Here on the Gulf Coast, leaking ductwork, old flex duct, dust issues, hot or cold rooms, and high power bills can all point to attic or duct problems that need attention before new insulation goes in.

That is the topic of this month’s June Air Notes: Get your fluff right.
