You can't stop a hurricane, but you can avoid some of the damage. Here's the quick walk-around we tell our own customers to do:

🏠 Look at your roof from the ground. Check for lifted or missing shingles, exposed nails, and damaged flashing. Don't climb up there.

🌳 Trim or flag limbs hanging over the roof. Falling limbs cause plenty of storm damage.

🧹 Clear gutters and downspouts so water can drain.

🪑 Secure or bring in loose items like patio furniture, grills, and trash cans. They become projectiles in high wind.

📸 Take "before" photos of your roof and house from every side. If you file a claim, documentation of the pre-storm condition helps.

🔧 Know who you'll call afterward. A licensed roofer with a real local address beats a stranger who shows up after the storm.

After a storm, every truck in town is suddenly a "roofing company." Before you sign anything, check these:

✅ Look up the license. MyFloridaLicense.com takes two minutes. Ours is CCC1337434.

📝 Know your cancellation rights. On a roof contract signed after a Governor-declared emergency, you can cancel without penalty within 10 days of signing, or by the official start date, whichever comes first. It should be printed in the contract right above your signature.

📞 Call your insurance company first. A roofer can't negotiate your claim or waive your deductible. If someone offers, walk away.

💰 Ask for pricing in writing. Prices can rise after a storm when real costs rise, but you're entitled to a clear explanation.

⚠️ Unlicensed contractors can't enforce their contracts, and the state Recovery Fund won't cover your losses if you hire one.
