For years we avoided running cold-rolled steel through our machines. The oil and residue just weren’t worth gumming up the equipment we rely on to produce clean, precise roofing and siding.

After plenty of experimenting (and a little stubbornness), we’ve figured it out.

Gunnison Sheet Metal is now rolling cold-rolled steel into custom roofing, siding, and flashing—ready to weather into the rich, rusty patina that’s become one of the West’s most sought-after looks.

Is it the longest-lasting finish? No. Rusted steel gives up some lifespan compared to painted or Galvalume products. But every material has its place, and sometimes style wins. If you’re after that timeless mountain aesthetic, we’ve got you covered.

Shop Talk: Sometimes an eighth of an inch is... miles. 😂

Every shop has those days.

A small detail changed on a custom home, one measurement was remembered as 3/4” instead of 7/8”, and suddenly the team was making 96 new pieces before calling it a night.

That’s the reality of custom fabrication. Nobody gets it perfect every time, but what matters is owning the mistake, making it right, and getting the job back on track.
