🏊 750m open water swim
🚴 20km bike ride
🏃 5km run

That’s what our Senior Project Manager Neal Hogge has been up to recently, in the Sprint Triathlon at Smith Mountain Lake State Park as well as a fundraiser for Nicaragua!

The 5km race was organized by Crossroads Community Church who support incredible work in Nicaragua. For example, last year they enabled hundreds of children to attend school; built and furnished 6 homes for those in desperate need; and helped 400 new patients get prescriptions, care plans and eyecare at the medical clinic.

Hudgins was proud to be a sponsor, and just as proud of Neal who finished 127th out of 225 racers in his first Sprint. What a fantastic achievement these both are, well done Neal!

You might not realize it, but having a healthy environment impacts you more than you know.

But clean air, safe water and climate resilience take effort, so we take our environmental responsibility very seriously.

We work with soil and water every day, and one of the many ways we hold ourselves accountable is by being CERC Certified. This means we’re trained to spot environmental risks early, manage them properly, and follow best practices that help prevent pollution before it starts.

This is our home, our workplaces, and our communal spaces. It’s where our families, friends and loved ones live, so you can bet that we’re gonna do all that we can to look after it.

Hard hats prevent thousands of serious head injuries each year, and we wanted to show you what our team uses to keep them safe.

These hats use pioneering protection combined with smart tech that stores emergency contact and medical data making it available to first responders when every second counts.

So yeah, they look simple, but they’re actually doing the most important job on site.

A peak behind the scenes of our recent process improvement workshop.

One of the things we value is making space for people to speak up, challenge old ways of doing things, and dig into ideas that make life easier and more efficient, on site and in the office. How can we work smarter, communicate better and support the people behind the projects?

Funny how progress begins with a room full of Post-It notes, tasty snacks and a dog supervising the whole thing.

Good grades mean something different here!

Our grading work shapes the ground so everything’s perfectly straight and flat before concrete or soil gets laid. It takes precision, patience and a sharp eye for detail, especially when the sun’s shining down and the clock’s ticking.

Grading used to mean tying off string lines, checking slopes by hand and trusting your instinct. These days we use GPS-guided equipment that’s accurate to the inch.

Working with Hudgins means you always get good grades 😉 Get in touch if you need help with an upcoming project: [email protected]

His Mom works at a construction company.

And although Mom is the Chief Estimator at a successful site work contractor, he thinks that Mom gets to play with big trucks all day (if only, buddy).

Growing up, he’ll see Mom working in construction as perfectly normal. Mom’s company President is a woman, and the CEO is too - no big deal. Except that it is, because women still only make up around 12% of the U.S. construction workforce due to biased workplace cultures.

Well, not here. Hudgins has an employee first culture, with policies that enhance employee experience and wellbeing, including cross-functional leadership and collaboration. New processes have been implemented to identify and promote next generation leadership so that anyone - any son or daughter - can see themselves working in construction if they want.
