Celebrating NASA Langley Research Centers Viking mission,

a Mars exploration milestone in 250 years of American achievements

Visitors will enjoy meeting and attending talks with past and current Space Exploration Leaders and real Viking Mission Team Members who served on the first mission to Mars’ surface in 1976. Government and industry experts will share exciting work on future missions and students from institutions around the country will also share their research and experience interning at NASAs leading research facilities.

Events will begin at 10am and continue until closing at 4pm

AIAA HRS celebrated the remarkable achievements of our members at the PEC Banquet on February 22. Congratulations to Dr. Julia Cline on receiving the Engineer of the Year Award and to Dr. Kevin Jacobson on being honored with the Doug Ensor Award. The evening concluded with our very own David McGowan serving as the event’s distinguished keynote speaker. We are proud to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments and leadership within our community.

Please come out and celebrate the award winners from the AIAA Hampton Roads Section at the 58th Annual Awards Banquet. Our guest speaker this year is the Senior Advisor to the Center Director at NASA Langley Research Center Dave Young.

MENU: Buffet dinner with meat and vegetarian options

COST:
$15.00 for members/each family member
$25.00 for non-members
$10.00 for student members

Non-members joining AIAA in the month prior to this event will receive a complimentary dinner. Please bring proof of joining for the event. Please pay at the door where credit cards will be accepted. Checks should be made out to AIAA HRS.

The K-12 STEM Outreach group will be leading robotics programming activities at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum’s Brick by Brick Lego Shipbuilding event, and we need your help!

This event is free and open to the public. Even if you don’t volunteer, feel free to come out and enjoy the fun as a visitor! Details for visitors can be found at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/brick-by-brick-lego-shipbuilding-tickets-463640630607?aff=ebdssbdestsearch.

For those interested in volunteering, here are some details:

Date: Saturday, February 4th, 9 am – 4:30 pm (if you can only volunteer for part of the day, let me know and we can work out shifts)

Location: Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center, 1 Waterside Drive Norfolk, VA 23510 (right next to Nauticus)

Activity: Visitors will be able to walk up and learn how to program Lego robots. They can then try to complete a programming challenge

No experience is needed and the programming language is quick and easy to learn. The event opens to the public at 10 am so before it opens we’ll teach you the language

Lunch: Free lunch will be provided for all volunteers assisting for the entire day

Dr. Laura Titolo technical talk entitled "Taming numerical errors in safety-critical avionics applications" has been posted to YouTube.

Dr. Titolo is an NIA Senior Research Scientist working in the Safety-Critical Avionics Systems Branch at NASA Langley Research Center. Registration will be offered in a hybrid format so that participants may attend in person or virtually.
