HVAC Tips to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat

1. Change Your Air Filters

We know, we know—you’ve heard this one before. But during a heat wave, your system is running constantly, which means your air filter is clogging up faster than usual. A dirty filter restricts airflow, making your AC unit work harder and less efficiently.

We recommend checking and changing your filter every 30-90 days during the summer. It’s a small step that makes a big impact on both comfort and energy bills.

2. Keep Your Thermostat Steady

Resist the urge to drop your thermostat to 65°. During extreme heat, it’s better to set your thermostat a few degrees higher than normal—around 74°F or a little higher if possible—and leave it there. Constantly adjusting the temperature causes your AC unit to cycle more frequently, adding strain and cost.

3. Close Curtains & Use Ceiling Fans

Help your AC out! Keep blinds and curtains closed during peak sun hours and run ceiling fans to circulate cool air more effectively. Fans don’t cool the air, but they help circulate it—which makes your home feel more comfortable.
