🍂 Is that a burning smell?! Don't worry, comfort is coming! 🔥
With temperatures dropping, many of you are turning on your heat for the first time in months. If you notice a slight, dusty burning smell, it's usually nothing to worry about!
Here’s the deal: Over the summer, dust settles on your heating elements (or "heat strips"). When they fire up for the first time, that dust burns off. It's totally normal and should go away within 20-30 minutes.
Pro-Tips for Your First Fire-Up:
Test it now: Don't wait until it's freezing overnight! Turn your system on for a bit this afternoon so you can air out the house if needed.
Open windows: Cracking a few windows helps dissipate the smell faster and can keep your smoke detectors from getting overly excited!
Check your filter: A clogged air filter can make your system work harder. Make sure yours is clean!
⚠️ When to Worry:
If the smell lingers after an hour, is very strong, or you see smoke, turn the unit off and give us a call right away. An electrical burning smell is a sign of a more serious issue.
