Still some bits and pieces to put on the new warehouse for Rockingham Cooperative. Working with our good friends over at Lantz Construction Company, the new warehouse replaces a deteriorated wood building. Engineering Solutions provided turn-key design and assisted the owner with our project management services to review payment requests and change orders. If you are thinking about an upcoming project, Engineering Solutions can assist you from the napkin sketch all the way thru your move into the building.

The Harrisonburg office donated some time today for the Habitat for Humanity townhouse project on Suter St in Harrisonburg. Thanks to Johann with JZ Engineering, his crew, and our friends over at Monteverde Engineering & Design Studio. Lots of fun having three structural engineering firms joining some hard working volunteers and staff!

With some rain finally heading our way, you might want to get out and check your gutters and downspouts! The single largest issue causing foundation issues is water. Keep the gutters clear and the downspouts free flowing.

Of course we don’t always follow our own advice. At the Harrisonburg office, we just cleaned out a few of the gutters and the downspouts were clogged in two spots. One of the downspouts had become disconnected from the gutter ni**le. Check them with a hose if you can. Be safe on the ladder and call a cleaning service if you don’t want to risk being on a ladder.

We are excited to collaborate on another project with Virginia Trout Unlimited! This time, our efforts are focused west of Harrisonburg in the George Washington National Forest on a tributary that feeds Switzer Lake (also known as Skidmore Fork Lake). This project involves removing a deteriorated culvert and replacing it with an arch structure that will have a reconstructed stream flowing beneath it. This will prevent the native brook trout from becoming trapped, which was a direct result of the culvert and the subsequent plunge pool that was created, negatively impacting their ability to swim upstream. Luckily, Virginia Trout Unlimited resolved this issue recently with an on-site visit to help relocate the trapped brook trout. We've done several projects with Virginia Trout Unlimited in the past five years, and we look forward to creating better fishes for all of our anglers out there!

We want to officially welcome (back) Caleb Oesch to the Engineering Solutions team! Caleb joined us as an intern last June and now, having graduated from Eastern Mennonite University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, is our newest EIT on staff. When he's not working, you can find him woodworking, camping, and overall enjoying the outdoors. We're excited to have you back with us, Caleb, and can't wait to see how you develop as an engineer!

Check out the latest progress from our work with Bryce Resort. You can see the concrete poured walls on the exterior of the pool, as well as the completed tile work in the patio area. The pavilion, grill, and kitchen features cross-laminated timber (CLT) and is well under construction and. The crane sets 11x50 feet panels on top of the structural steel and will eventually be stained. The structural steel columns are also in progress of being painted. The building itself is a wood framed structure that will receive both Nichiha siding and metal shingle siding.

Head over to Bryce Resort in these final summer days to see all of the amenities they have to offer!

We are thrilled to have Chris Shelton join us as our intern this summer! Chris is entering his senior year at Old Dominion University, majoring in Civil Engineering Technology and minoring in engineering management. When he's not working, you can catch him hiking, fishing, golfing, and taking advantage of the outdoors. He also enjoys woodworking and building things with his hands. Welcome Chris!
