What happens when our planet gets warmer? Rising seas, stronger storms, and communities facing an uncertain future.

In his latest blog, City Tech student Diego Ramirez explores how greenhouse gas emissions are fueling global warming and increasing risks for coastal communities around the world. Ramirez highlights the growing threat of sea level rise, flooding, and stronger hurricanes that could force many people to leave their homes.

How much does the design of our cities impact the temperature around us?

City Tech CUNY student Noel Alcocer writes about the Urban Heat Island effect and how human design choices directly influence local climate conditions. During an outdoor Air & Surface Lab with fellow students in his Natural Disasters class, students used remote sensors to compare temperatures in different environments and found that concrete covered areas had much higher temperatures than areas with grass and dirt.

Noel’s experience highlights how some of the most noticeable effects of climate change can be seen on a much smaller scale within cities themselves.

What happens when rising seas, extreme weather, and warming oceans all collide? The impacts of climate change are already reshaping our world.

City Tech CUNY student Sean Yeribo explores how extreme weather events, rising sea levels, warming oceans, and disruptions to both natural and human systems are all deeply connected through climate change. As these impacts continue to grow, understanding them is essential to creating real solutions and adapting for the future.

“Climate change is not just a future concern but a defining issue of the present.”

Climate change is no longer an obscure or theoretical issue. It is a present-day crisis that is actively reshaping the...

As climate change continues to impact communities around the world, finding ways to adapt has never been more important.

City Tech CUNY student Infidon Omoigberai explores practical solutions that can help reduce climate change impacts, including cooling buildings with heat reflective paint, conserving water, planting drought resistant crops, and supporting more sustainable farming practices.

Innovative ideas and everyday actions can help build a more resilient future while reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

As the world continues to move forward, climate change remains a key talking point in modern discussion. The overall temperature...

City Tech CUNY student Subhan Nafise shares how a recent field trip changed the way she thinks about heat in cities. Before the trip, she says she “knew cities can be hotter but I did not really think about why that happens.”

Seeing firsthand how trees, shade, pavement, and buildings affect temperature helped highlight how some neighborhoods experience heat differently than others.

Read more about Subhan’s experience on the ClimateYou Alliance website.

How do climate laws help protect our future?

In his latest piece, City Tech CUNY student Yahir Delgado explores how climate policies encourage cleaner energy, hold industries accountable, and support a more sustainable future while reminding us that climate change remains an ongoing crisis.

Every day, we impact the climate around us. We notice over time our impact is changing the way our Earth...

City Tech CUNY student Jermaine Lewis shares a bold perspective on climate change, overconsumption, and the systems driving the crisis. As a data science major, he explores how technology and data can expose harmful patterns while questioning the role of corporate greed and billionaire influence.

“Money is still green, and our planet isn’t getting any greener.”

When I consider climate change, the elephant in the room is not that it is a scientific issue but that...

What does climate change actually look like on the ground?

For City Tech CUNY student Rashidun Rithy, it’s something deeply personal. Reflecting on their home country of Bangladesh, Rashidun shares how the environment has changed over time, especially the lakes and water sources that were once central to daily life.

As a child, these waters were clean, full, and actively used by the community. Today, many have shrunk or dried up entirely during hotter months, showing just how real and visible the impact of climate change has become.

This isn’t a distant issue, it’s already reshaping landscapes, communities, and everyday life.
