Renewable Lubricants, Inc. conducted a comprehensive biodegradability study under ASTM D 5864-00, led by Biochemist Aaron R. Harnar. This evaluation involved RLI Bio-Hydraulic Formulations and Chevron Phillips Chemical PAO.

The study used a sewage sludge sample from Hiram Wastewater Treatment Dept., Hiram OH 44234, inoculated and without pre-adaptation techniques - except for a pre-exposure of sludge microorganisms to Bio-Ultimax ISO 68 two weeks prior to the official test start.

The live microorganism count measured around 250,000 cfu/ml, lower than the ASTM recommendation due to reduced flow during the Hiram College spring break.

The reference substance, high oleic canola oil, served as the biodegradable control. By day 28, all formulations except PAO4 surpassed the 60% biodegradation threshold, meeting ASTM Pw1 standards. The biodegradation trends over the test period demonstrated successful biodegradability for the formulations.

According to ASTM D-6046, the five bio-based hydraulic formulations were classified as Ultimately Biodegradable (Pw1) for exceeding 60% biodegradation. The OECD Environment Committee would classify PAO 4 as inherently biodegradable (>20% in 28 days). The Bio-Ultimax 1000 68 Hydraulic Fluid displayed superior biodegradability compared to the canola oil control, potentially attributed to the optional inoculum pre-adaptation technique employed in this study. This study underscores the commitment to environmentally friendly solutions in lubricant formulations.

This engine has consistently delivered outstanding performance, covering significant distances and achieving remarkable success. Operating predominantly between 5000 and 7500rpm, with oil temperatures ranging between 280°F and 300°F, it has maintained exceptional functionality.

During the most recent assessment, the engine demonstrated an impressive 692hp at the crankshaft, naturally aspirated. Even more commendable is its graceful aging, displaying minimal wear during the last teardown for inspection. In fact, this marks the fifth engine installed in my car, and it has outperformed its predecessors significantly. The longevity and resilience of this engine can be directly attributed to the quality of your lubricants, unequivocally contributing to its prolonged endurance.
