Steele Fire Apparatus, LLC is looking for a skilled welder with a heavy emphasis on TIG welding to help build our custom, life-saving fire trucks!
While we use MIG for structural work, we need a pro who excels at the precision, heat control, and cleanliness required for specialized TIG applications on our apparatus. If you’ve got the steady hand and the technical eye for high-end aluminum and stainless work, we want you in our shop.
Core Responsibilities
• Welding Operations: Perform high-quality Tig and Mig welds on various metals according to specifications.
• Equipment Setup: Configure, adjust, and maintain welding equipment (amperage, voltage, gas flow, wire feed).
• Blueprint Interpretation: Read, interpret, and follow technical drawings, welding symbols, and schematics.
• Fabrication & Assembly: Measure, cut, and tack-weld components into position for final assembly.
• Quality Control: Inspect finished welds for defects (porosity, cracks) to meet AWS standards.
• Safety & Maintenance: Adhere to safety guidelines (PPE usage), maintain a clean workspace (5S), and troubleshoot equipment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Experience: Proven experience as a TIG/MIG welder, often requiring a welding test.
• Technical Knowledge: Understanding of metal properties and welding techniques.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in various positions.
• Precision: Strong attention to detail for precise, clean welds.
Common Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical school or AWS certification is preferred.
• Experience with other shop tools (grinders, saws).
