The Mercer Rubber Co. team has been working on a large order of 7 total 84-Inch neoprene joints. These joints will be installed within a cooling pipe system of a nuclear power plant in Florida City, FL. The joints will enable the process of pulling water from a nearby river to cool the plant as it works to generate power for the local community. We were able to capture Allen, Floyd, and Tulle throughout the process of building, cleaning, and crating the joints for shipment. Well Done!

Mercer Rubber Co. has been in the process of fulfilling a large order for New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. Our team is currently completing phase 2 of 3 total shipments, each containing 40 high-movement duct expansion joints. Each joint is made from EPDM rubber and utilizes 316 stainless steel back up flanges. Once installed, these joints will span between two buildings, allowing for movement to occur between buildings.

Captured here in the photo is a FCR501 Concentric Reducer undergoing a pressure test to ensure that the product reaches its full test pressure. Measuring at 48” Dia. x 42” Dia. x 16” FF, the Concentric Reducer is made entirely from natural rubber. The unit was rated for 125 psi and full vacuum and tested to 190 psi. This unit was custom made and delivered to Coastal Water Authority in Houston, TX.

Our mill room provides us with a large variety of rubber materials; here we have captured natural rubber with 22 oz cotton reinforcement being made. The result of the process is a homogeneous building material used in flanges, HL pads, and washers. Floyd and his team worked to create a 1,000 lb. roll that will be used for current projects.

We were able to capture some photos in the early stages of the construction of a new large diameter expansion joint. This single arch neoprene joint is Kevlar reinforced and is a special project being made for a repeat client in South America. Once manufacture is complete and the joint has reached its destination, it will replace an existing Mercer Rubber Co. joint that was installed 30 years ago. Stories like this are a testament to the long-lasting quality and design of our products, and respect of our clients.

As the weather cools down on the East coast, we see a rise in requests for expansion joints throughout the Tri-State area. The cooler weather allows the facilities to shut down various systems in an effort to replace and maintain older units. As you see in the photo the original expansion joint has been removed due to extreme corrosion. Our Mercer Sales Rep and Engineer were on sight to get proper measurements so fabrication could start immediately. We understand time is of the essence and we are looking to produce this custom expansion joint in the requested time of 2 weeks.
