We tried a new chemical stripper on the doors we are working on today. We are very happy with the results, we’ll be ready for patching and painting before we know it!

Life is all about learning. I love to learn and we strive to continually educate ourselves to bring the latest products and techniques to our customers.

We also use great subcontractors when we have to sub something out. These guys are true professionals and I always learn something new from them every time we work together because we only hire exceptionally talented and smart sub contractors.

However, every once in a while, we have to branch out and try a new vendor. Recently we tried a new paint vendor. Unfortunately I got an education I wasn’t looking for on the difference between a quality and sub quality paint job from the school of hard knocks. The price of the education? Two weeks of our crew fixing all the mistakes.

I am lucky to have a very talented crew of guys working who were able to come in, take over and turn a third rate job into a first rate job.

We got the reclaimed floors finished and I think they came out great!

Some times we get to work in some pretty cool locations. This spot is cool because it hardly feels like NNJ at all, even though it definitely is. It’s a great spot to set up for a few days!

And just like that it turned into beam replacement Thursday. I have been avoiding this task due to potential difficulties at the wall where it ties in with the historic stone work, but the team got it done without a hitch. These beams are tulip poplar, a pretty ubiquitous tree in North American forests and a common building material albeit mostly for trim. It was difficult to source this timber to replace the existing historic poplar timber. We had to search far and wide to find a poplar beam new or reclaimed. Luckily we found this reclaimed beam at a mill in Maryland and it worked out great. @ David Ackerman House
