Intern Spotlight: Cooper Faker in Spokane

It has been a joy having Cooper join our Engineering team in Spokane and Hayden this summer!

Throughout his internship, Cooper has gained valuable hands-on experience supporting projects across the region and recently shared a few photos from the field:

Not a bad view from the field!

We're grateful for the opportunity to partner with Tapani, Inc. on the expansion and renovation of the Klickitat Fish Hatchery. The project includes replacing aging structures and constructing new facilities that will support the hatchery's future operations.

Intern Spotlight: Elias in Missoula!

Elias has been a rockstar this summer with our Missoula team, steadily building her skills in both field and lab work.

Our Lab Manager, Halee Love, shared these photos showing the creative ways our team makes learning memorable. The note on Elias' arm is a reminder to record the dry weight before completing a gradation. As any lab technician knows, without the dry weight, the gradation calculations can't be completed.
Thank you for an awesome summer, Elias! We're grateful for your hard work and positive attitude. We loved having you as part of ALLWEST this summer.

Our hearts are with everyone affected by the Spokane Complex Fires. As a company with deep roots in the Inland Northwest and a Spokane office that is part of this community, we are thinking of our neighbors, first responders, and all those facing uncertainty during this difficult time.

To support relief and recovery efforts, ALLWEST has contributed to the Innovia Foundation's Spokane County Disaster Relief Fund. We also encourage those who are able to consider supporting local relief efforts and organizations assisting those impacted.

Happy National Intern Day! We're thrilled to introduce our 2026 ALLWEST Interns.

The ALLWEST Summer Internship Program is one of our team's favorite parts of the year! We love welcoming both new and returning interns each summer for a season of learning, hard work, and plenty of fun along the way.

Through our internship program, students gain hands-on experience and valuable industry exposure in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing, Geology, and Environmental Services. We're excited to support their growth and help shape the next generation of industry professionals.

Thank you, Elias, Sophia, Jagger, and Cooper, for all your hard work this summer! You've been a great addition to the team, and we're grateful for the energy, dedication, and enthusiasm you've brought to ALLWEST.

When you think of a lab, you might picture white lab coats, petri dishes, and lots of chemicals.

At ALLWEST, our labs look a little different. Think concrete core samples, soil, trays of aggregate, and a whole lot of specialized equipment.

Our Business Admin team had the chance to step out of the office and into the lab for a hands-on look at what a typical day is like for the lab crew. From proctors and sieves to soil density testing and more, it was an eye-opening experience.

We were blown away by the level of knowledge, precision, and detail that goes into the work behind the scenes. The science and technique involved in concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and soils testing is truly impressive; and critical to the success of our projects.

Thank you to our lab crews across all offices for the hard work that is done behind the scenes each day!

Giving back to the communities we call home ❤️

Shane Warner, Hayden Special Inspector/Project Manager, and his family have been putting in the work at their local grange, helping with updates like a new ADA ramp and other improvements. After learning about some safety gaps, ALLWEST was proud to step in and donate fire extinguishers to help support the space.

What a perfect way to wrap up National Safety Month; although our commitment to safety continues year-round.

From Engineering to Inspiring the Next Generation

Recently, Chelsea Lloyd, Environmental Services Director, shared her love of engineering at her daughter’s elementary school career day with 3rd–5th graders, bringing hands-on demonstrations like soil jar testing and environmental sampling equipment. The students asked more than 20 thoughtful questions and didn’t want the session to end, and these thank-you notes ended up being a favorite part of it.

And this past weekend, Chelsea cheered on her daughter’s FIRST LEGO League team at the Canada Cup in Niagara Falls; after they earned top placements locally and at state. Watching their confidence, teamwork, and passion for STEM in action was a proud full-circle moment. ALLWEST is proud to sponsor the FIRST LEGO League team and support the next generation of problem solvers and innovators.

✨ Celebrating International Women in Engineering Day ✨

Today, we’re excited to highlight Kohana Smallen, Staff Engineer, and Chelsea Lloyd, Environmental Services Director, and their journeys into engineering.

Kohana is a recent graduate from Boise State University’s College of Engineering and recently stepped into a full-time Staff Engineer role in our Meridian office. She began her journey with ALLWEST as a summer intern while earning her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Chelsea brings a strong background in Civil Engineering and has been instrumental in leading our Environmental team as Environmental Services Director. She holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and Construction Management and continues to make a lasting impact across the company.

We asked Kohana and Chelsea to share what inspired them to pursue engineering, their proudest career moments, and the advice they would give to other women considering this field. Their insights are a powerful reminder of the impact, growth, and opportunities that engineering can offer.
