What’s that smell? 👃
If you’re turning on your heat for the first time this season, a temporary dusty smell is usually normal. Dust can settle inside the system while it’s unused, then burn off during those first few heating cycles.
But a strong electrical or smoky smell, or one that doesn’t go away, should not be ignored. Turn the system off and have it checked.
If you smell rotten eggs or suspect a gas leak, leave the home immediately and call 911 and Southwest Gas from a safe location.
