Have you heard of First Responders Appreciation Day?

It’s an annual tradition put on at Stan Greer Millworks every year with the help of the community!

September 23rd will be our 11th year showing our local first responders that our community appreciates the sacrifices and risks they take every day.

What does it look like?

From 11am-2pm we host the event at The Old Door Shop, right next to Stan Greer Millworks.
5930 S Hwy 92, Hereford AZ

The community comes together with volunteers to provide 150 swag bags and lunches to eat on the go, or on site if they have the time.

All first responders that sign up are entered into a raffle with tons of cool prizes from Meta glasses to gift certificates. Last year one lucky first responder won a brand new quad!

There are also games (like tug of war, relay races, or push up contests) with prizes and, of course, bragging rights.

We would love for the community to help us make it great this year as well.
If you would like to be a part of this year’s First Responders Appreciation Day there are a few ways you can help!

Remember: 100% of money and item donations go to First Responders.

Raffle items:
Last year we had 101 items to raffle off! You can donate any new item, or a gift certificate, to be raffled off.

Swag bag donations:
We are planning for 150 swag bags, so you can donate 150 small items (pens, stress balls, coupons, etc.) which can be branded with your company information to help share your business.

Monetary donations:
Any monetary donations will go toward paying for raffle items, prizes, or food for the first responders. Monetary donations of $200 or more come with extra perks to promote your business. For more information, please reach out by email at [email protected]

Sharing the info:
One way you can help for free is by sharing this post or letting people know about First Responders Appreciation Day. Whether they’re a first responder who can participate in receiving some cool stuff or someone who wants to give them cool stuff.

Thank you to those of you who have already volunteered and donated! We can’t do this without the support of our community. ❤️💙

Don’t get us wrong, we love being there when our community needs us!
But hopefully we can spare you a big problem, (even if it costs us potential business).

Here’s how you can protect your doors and windows when getting rid of all those monsoon w**ds:

1. Protective Physical Barriers

Install (temporary) Protective Barriers: Use plywood, cardboard, or Plexiglass leaning against or taped over windows and glass doors.

Attachment Guards: Use string trimmer attachments like the Tie Boss Debris Guard or Swisher String Trimmer Debris Shield, which are designed to act as rock deflectors and block debris from flying forward.

Use Old Curtains or Tarps: Hang heavy old curtains or a tarp over windows, pulling the base away from the window to create a way to soften the momentum of stones and debris.

2. Technique and Positioning

Angled Trimming: Keep the w**d whacker head angled so the spinning line shoots debris downward into the grass, not toward the house.

Cut in the Correct Direction: Move from side to side, especially around homes, to control debris discharge.

Watch the "Discharge Zone": Be mindful of where the string is spinning and ensure it is not launching objects towards glass, especially when trimming along fences or walls.

Low RPMs: Run the trimmer at lower speeds (RPMs) when working near windows and doors, or even vehicles.

3. Preparation and Maintenance

Clear the Area: Remove stones, sticks, wire, and other debris from the area before starting the trimmer.

Keep the Guard On: Always keep the factory safety guard on your string trimmer to reduce the force and trajectory of flying debris.

Check Terrain: Assess the terrain to identify hidden rocks or gravel paths close to the house.

By implementing these measures, you can prevent broken windows or dented doors, saving significant repair costs. And when you’re ready for new windows or doors because you’re upgrading your home or business, come see us at Stan Greer Millworks!

We have a showroom which is open to the public Monday-Friday from 7am to 4pm, and a great team of experienced professionals to answer any questions and get your door/window/garage door/kitchen cabinet project started!
