This client wanted a "He Shed" but with separate storage. If you haven't visited Pinterest recently and witnessed the "She Shed" revolution, this type of construction allows for flexible space that is detached from the home and used for a hobby, workshop or even an outdoor bar. The sky is the limit and calling this a shed would be an insult! So, we designed just that, only with head-height attic space for storage that is accessible with pull-down stairs. The client selected a fun color scheme to compliment the rest of their outdoor aesthetic.

Another from a recent basement transformation... This client needed to create an apartment for a family member. There's a lot to consider when doing this. In most of these instances you are creating a space for someone who is experiencing a lot of changes in their life, and we all know how most of us handle big changes! So, designing a comfortable space that can be made to feel like home which also provides some autonomy is incredibly important. For this project we were able to create a keyed entry with a foyer from the basement level, a private exterior entrance, bedroom, full bath, TV area and a kitchenette with room for dining. A home within a home!

Sometimes you just need a fresh set of eyes to help reimagine a difficult space. That was just the case for these clients who had some specific needs for utilizing their basement, which included a gym, bathroom, apartment and kitchenette! And, although this job posed some difficult challenges in space planning, it ended up being able to check off all their boxes without losing storage! More to come on this project...

This client is a set designer and when I saw a somewhat neglected, full-sized, working Star Wars prop sitting in their basement, you better believe I jumped at the chance to incorporate it into the new basement design! I so appreciated that the client was on board with utilizing it and agreed it deserved its own space to be showcased and admired. So, we created the perfect spot and now this artwork is more appropriately living out its days as a conversation piece rather than a towel rack.

Unconventional ideas and products aren't just reserved for the most expensive homes! These locally sourced walnut countertops in a townhouse kitchen remodel turned out beautifully! It also felt good to be able to repurpose slabs from a felled tree so it can continue to be admired for years to come.

This townhouse kitchen redesign is the latest project that was a lot of fun but not without its challenges. As with most older homes, nothing was level and we discovered a pesky beam that was holding up the house but also in our way! The owner was incredibly patient and willing to listen to some of our ideas for non traditional components and the end result, in my humble opinion, was fantastic! From the walnut slab and soapstone countertops to the shelves and tile design, this kitchen turned out beautifully!
