We know...turning on the heat in September in Texas sounds slightly unhinged 😂 But that's exactly why now is a great time to give it a quick test run.

Turn your heat on for a few minutes and make sure it starts normally, warm air is coming through, and you don't notice any unusual sounds or smells that stick around.

Because finding out something isn't working now is a lot better than finding out when the first cold front rolls through!

It seems like it would make sense..."If nobody's using the guest room, I'll just close the vent and send that air somewhere else."

Here's the hot take: that's actually not how most HVAC systems are designed to work.

Your system is sized to move a specific amount of air throughout your home. When you close vents, you're not redirecting that air to other rooms. Instead, you can increase pressure in your ductwork, restrict airflow, and make your HVAC system work harder than it needs to.

In some cases, it can even lead to:
✔ Reduced efficiency
✔ Uneven temperatures
✔ Extra wear and tear on your system
