This is the aftermath of the first Tri-County Pumpkin Auction of 2026. Several thousand dollars of produce (pumpkins of all kinds, gourds, Indian corn plus some watermelons) were auctioned off over two hours of exciting drama as only produce auctions can generate.
I also got a chance to test the software written for the beekeepers equipment auction. It held up fine. Jeff Burd loaned a PA system from the New Jersey Beekeepers which also proved itself to be a key factor in a successful auction.
See you next Friday at 5pm!

I associate it with William Kennedy's book of the same name, which I read years before keeping bees.

I got a phone call from a fellow in Long Branch NJ. He said his mother-in-law had received a jar of my honey from a synagogue somewhere and has been looking to buy some ever since. She's found honey labelled as "local" but it's never as good!
I explained I'm just a small regional beekeeper and gave him the names of some local shops that carry it.
Made my day!

Metuchen Farmers' Market not sure how many years I've been here on behalf of Temple Emanu-El. Lots of questions about bees, lots of kids and perfect weather.

I have two bucket perches - stainless steel brackets that hold the buckets on the lip of the bottling tank. One made by MannLake which is nicely made. One welded by me (also stainless) and is not as pretty.
The electric lift raises the buckets high enough to let me pour them into the tank then place - a skill ive gotten better at ( don't ask ).
I used to write unique names on the buckets ("Alpha"). Now the labels are more like A-1....A-2 written on tape attached to the lid.
Buckets as filled are logged against which yards are being extracted. There is a log also of buckets added ti the bottling tank.
Honey labels are generally tagged with invoice numbers which can be roughly matched against where the honey was harvested. Since the bottling tanked is only flushed and cleaned at the end of the year this only gives an approximation of where the honey was from
