Hurricane preparation is really about understanding which building systems could become operational bottlenecks after a storm.

A generator may be functional, but that does not automatically mean elevators, pumps, mechanical equipment, or other critical systems are ready to return to service.

Each component can have its own inspection requirements, vendor responsibilities, and restart sequence.

Planning those responsibilities in advance gives management a clearer path for post storm assessment, documentation, and recovery without simply reacting system by system once conditions improve.

Waterproofing becomes especially important when the concern is no longer limited to one isolated area.

Recurring moisture issues, wider roof exposure, aging surfaces, and multiple vulnerable points can all signal that a more comprehensive approach should be considered.

The goal is not simply to correct what is visible today, but to determine whether the roof needs targeted repair, sealing, coating, or a larger waterproofing solution based on its actual condition.

Re-roofing is underway at Villa Octagon in Fort Lauderdale.

The project is currently in the controlled tear-off phase, with the existing roofing system being removed in sections to expose the deck and allow our team to evaluate existing conditions before the new system is installed.

This stage is critical for identifying areas that may require repair, confirming substrate conditions, and properly preparing the roof for the next phase of the project.

We’ll be sharing more as the new roofing system begins to take shape!

A safety harness isn’t just another piece of equipment on the jobsite.

When crews are working more than 6 feet above a lower level, fall protection is required. But the protection itself also has to make sense for the work being performed, the access points, and the conditions around the crew.

Here, fall protection is being used while constructing overhead protection, integrating safety into the work from the start.

For example, visible concrete damage may point to a larger moisture issue, which can bring waterproofing, balcony, exterior wall, or structural repairs into the same corrective plan.

Movement doesn’t affect every part of a waterproofing system the same way.

At joints, transitions, and sealant lines, repeated expansion and contraction can gradually reduce flexibility, weaken adhesion, and change how the system performs over time.

That’s why these areas should be evaluated for more than visible cracking alone. Understanding how the joint is moving helps determine whether the existing sealant is still performing as intended or if corrective work is needed.

Concrete restoration isn’t always a surface-level repair.

At Vantage View, emergency shoring is supporting the slab while the engineer finalizes the repair details. Several areas require full-depth concrete removal, reinforcing steel work, and reconstruction before waterproofing can be restored.

When structural concrete, plumbing, and waterproofing all intersect, the repair sequence matters. Each system has to be addressed correctly to help prevent the same deterioration from returning.
