This water heater doesn’t simply wait for the tank to get cold.

Today we completed a Cala intelligent heat-pump water-heater installation in Western Massachusetts.

Cala learns the home’s hot-water use and adjusts when, how fast, and how hot it heats. This system will also coordinate automatically with the home’s solar system, helping move water heating toward periods when solar energy is available.

The installation includes Viega press connections and Webstone valves. After installation, we tested and commissioned the complete system under operating conditions.

Standard electric water heater out. Bradford White AeroTherm® G2 heat-pump water heater in.

This upgrade keeps the familiar electric storage-tank format while using heat-pump technology to heat water more efficiently.

The AeroTherm G2 includes five operating modes, giving the homeowner the ability to balance efficiency and hot-water recovery based on demand.

It also includes the ICON System® digital display and built-in Bradford White Wave® connectivity. Through the mobile app, the homeowner can adjust temperature, change operating modes, create schedules, and monitor energy use.

The G2 was also designed for quieter operation and a smaller installation footprint, with no required clearance on the sides or rear of the unit.

For this project, the installation was planned around the existing electrical service, water piping, condensate management, equipment placement, and future service access.

Once installed, the system was started, checked, and set up for normal operation.

A heat-pump water heater can be a strong replacement option for a standard electric tank, but the equipment still needs to fit the property, available space, drainage, electrical capacity, and hot-water demand.
