We do not typically criticize other companies or highlight their mistakes. However, a recent engagement to correct the installation of a 14 kW HSG revealed significant errors. Upon inspection, we found that the original gas line had not been properly sleeved, vented, or installed, but rather laid directly over the gravel and under the slab. To proceed with the project, we had to demolish the concrete slab and, upon digging to the required depth, encountered another sub-slab beneath the one we had just cut. The gas line and direct burial wire were taped together, posing a significant risk had a rock pierced the gas line or damaged the wire while laying under the concrete, causing gas to accumulate. Fortunately, we were able to address the issue by sleeving the underground gas line, capping the ends, and installing a vent to ensure that any potential leaks could escape safely. We also sleeved the electrical wiring in conduit and sealed it to prevent water ingress from underground. This experience highlights the importance of prioritizing quality over cost, as opting for the lowest price can have serious consequences. Ultimately, we were able to complete the project, registering, activating, and test-firing the unit, and the client is now set up with a safe and reliable emergency backup power system.
