116 years of showing up for Lancaster.
Lancaster Recreation Commission has been running recreation and learning programs in this city since 1909. Not as a government agency, not as a private gym, but as a community partnership between the City of Lancaster, the School District of Lancaster, and Lancaster Township, built specifically to make recreation accessible to people who might otherwise go without it.
The scope of what they do is worth actually reading.
Kids get youth sports leagues, dance classes, ESports programs, summer day camps, and full-day child care for infants through age 5. Before and after school programs for working families. Summer playgrounds and wading pools that are free to the community every year starting in June. A scholarship program that removes cost as a barrier for kids who want to participate but can't afford registration fees.
Adults get fitness classes and competitive sports leagues. Seniors get a free center with fitness programs, social activities, and facilitated learning classes. The whole community gets events like Open Streets Lancaster, Lancaster Beer Gardens, and the Lancaster Unity Cup.
Lancaster Rec runs on the belief that recreation is for everyone, regardless of age, income, or background. That belief is 116 years old and still operational.
We were proud to present Lancaster Rec with a $20,000 donation in support of their mission.

Lancaster Rec, formally the Lancaster Recreation Commission, has operated continuously since 1909. That's not a typo. 116 years of youth sports, summer camps, senior programs, child care, and free community events, all built around one idea: recreation should be available to everyone in Lancaster, r
